A government department has embracedthe fight against corruption in Papua New Guinea
The Department of Works and Implementation gthered last night atthe Airways Hotel to launchthe department’s Fraud and Corruption Policy.
Withthe huge task of upgrading, maintaining and sealingthe road network inthe country,the Department of Works reflected last night and embarked on a new mission to drivethe department forward.
Speaking atthe launching, Vice Minister for Works, De Kewanu, saidthe allocation of K1.6 billion fromthe national budget for 2014 comes with responsibility.
Mr Kewanu says,the Fraud and Corruption policy isthe way forward for the department.
Acting Secretary for Works, David Wereh, saidthe department has been hampered by dubious claims while struggling to carry out its duties.
Mr Wereh also announced that a critical achievement ofthe department isthe opening-up of economic corridors. This includesthe Madang Beiyer, New Beitain Link and Gulf Morobe road.
A brief ofthe Fraud and Corruption Policy was explained by Deputy Secretary of Shared Services, John Ame.
