PNG Lewas’ Target Set on East-Asia

With less than a month away, the Pacific MMI PNG Lewas team have been selected for the East-Asia Pacific Women’s T20 Cup to be held in Japan.

The Lewas will be playing against hosts Japan, Cook Islands, Samoa, Vanuatu and an exhibition team from the combined states of Australia.

The PNG Lewas have been selected to participate in the East-Asia Pacific Womens T20 Cup in Japan in May.

The winning team will earn a spot in the next stage of the ICC East-Asia Pacifics T20 World Cup Qualifier.

With the incumbent captain Norma Ovasuru unavailable, the selectors have opted Pauke Siaka to lead the Lewas in their quest to qualify for the next T20 World Cup.

The team also consists of debutants Elizabeth Ova, Seilosi Ambo, Sibona Jimmy, Helen Buruka, Kila Frank and Pipi Siake in replacement of some big-name players such as hard-hitting opener Norma Ovasuru, left-arm wrist spinner Kaia Arua, opening bowler Ravini Oa and explosive all-rounder Konio Oala.

The Lewas are hard at training to cover all bases before they depart for the tournament next month. They are determined to gain back the number one spot in the East-Asia Pacific region.

Current New South Wales Breakers (Women’s) Coach, Joanne Broadbent, will be on hand to assist former Pacific MMI Lewas captain and now Coach, Kune Amini.

The Pacific MMI Lewas depart on Sunday 4th May and are scheduled to return home on Monday 12th May.
