SHP Budget Passed

The Southern Highlands Provincial Assembly in its fourth seating unanimously passed its 2014 budget of K287 million.

This makes Southern Highlandsthe first province to announce and pass its 2014 provincial budget. The budget was framed on time to continue work left from 2013.

 

Before announcingthe province’s 2014 budgetoSouthern Highlands Governor, William Powi, gave a report ofthe implementation ofthe 2013 budget.

 

He saidthe 2013 budgeted funds were expanded according tothe budget priorities.

 

While being satisflied withthe implementation of this budgetohe announcedthe 2014 budget.

 

The 2014 budget priority areas included law and order, infrastructure, education and health, social sector, administrative sector and growingthe economy.

 

Fromthe K300 million ofthe total budget figure, roughly a little over K124 million was available for distribution.

 

 

He called onthe public servants inthe province to performtheir duties well to ensure this budget is translated to services.

 

While most ofthe projects were from 2013, new projects featured inthe 2014 budget includedthe establishment of a foundation that would cater for emergencies such as funerals, subsidies to Air Niugini to increasethe number of flights tothe province, school fees and uniforms, and thers.

 

He also warnedthe Local Level Government presidents thattheir accounts will be audited every year, andthey should be prepared to submit acquittals atthe end of each financial year.
