New Soldiers Told To Display High Levels of Discipline

NCD Governor Powes Parkop has called on new graduates fromthe Papua New GuineaDefense Force to display high levels of discipline.

 

His remarks on Friday atthe Pass-out parade atthe Goldie River Training Depot follows recent incidents of poor discipline withinthe force.

The Papua New GuineaDefence Force is an institution built on a colorful history. Bet inthe recent past its reputation has been tarnished by adverse discipline withinthe force.

 

It is now up tothese graduates to restore this lost pride.

 

NCD Governor Powes Parkop toldthem to practice caution and restraint intheir mandated duties; abover all, to respectthe constitution, and be loyal tothe national governmentoandthe people.

 

The national government intends to increasethe current man power from 1800 to 5000 by 2015.

 

Parkop’says this is crucial in protecting our internal security.

 

He also called onthe Papua New Guineadefense force to take a leading role in nation building.

 

The Governor also usedthe opportunity to announce a partnership arrangement withthe Papua New Guineadefense Force to train unemployed youths inthe city.

 

A one-million kina commitment has been made for the partnership to be effective next year. This initiative intends to ridthe city of drop outs.

 

Youths willthen be absorbed intothe force to undergo basic recruit training to become soldiers or be attached inthe workforce.
