Catholic Archbishop of Port Moresby John Ribat reflected onthe country'’s issues when giving his Easter message yesterday.
He spoke of selfishness and greed; two practices that have truly tested society'’s Christian beliefs.
Archbishop Ribat said Easter is a time of renewal, where Christians aroundthe world can takethe time to reflect ontheir lives, and how it has impactedtheir families, communities andthe nation.
“Some individuals in life have done very well, in some familiesthe parents have held on togther in challenging moments and have kept family togther,”the Archbishop said.
While he touched on issues like corruption and sorcery related deaths, he saidthese problems occur because we allow it.
Bet we as Christians believe in God, and because of our faith, God continues to give us strength, confidence and a conscience that such practices are morally wrong.
The Archbishop thankedthe government’s effort in setting up inquiries into corrupt practices and for acknowledgingthe role of churches in development.
He went on to say, “This task given to us is very hard and demanding. To lead is to commit our time, (and) our effort unselfishly for the good of our people.”
And Papua New Guineas must respond positively by upholding good values for a harmonious and peaceful society.
