Assistant Commissioner for Police and Commander for NCD and Central Jim Andrews confirmed on Friday thatthe main suspect inthe murder of former Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Peter Waieng was captured and is in police custody.
Commissioner Andrews said Waieng was stabbed with a knife on Thursday night after an argument broke out between him and a female companion on Roku beatch, just outside Port Moresby.
The suspectoa male, who was withthe couple, hit Waieng overthe head with a stone when Waiang assaultedthe female.
The suspectthen stabbed him inthe stomach with a knife. Waieng was said to have dlied onthe scene.
Commissioner Andrews has called onthe Kundiawa-Gembogl community in Port Moresby not to retaliate, but to letthe law take its course.
