 &ldquoInvest inthe future; Defeat Malaria” isthetheme ofWorld Malaria Daycelebration celebrated onthe 25th of April.

Health Minister Michael Malabag was at Hanuabada village oval inthe nation’s capital to markthe 6thWorld Malaria Daywiththe community.

He was accompanlied by representatives fromtheWorld Health Organization,the Health Department and malaria advocacy partners.

Kase said efforts to reduce malaria infection in PNG have been positive but people need to be vigilant to prevent one ofthe biggest killer inthe country.

This year’stheme provides a platform for health partners to increase education on prevention and treatment.

WHO Country Director Dr William Adu-Krow is pleased withthe results oPNG’s malaria control program inthe last two years.

Health Minister Michael Malabagsaid with an increased funding of K120 million from Global Fund, two treated mosquito nets must be distributed to every household inthe country.

Treated mosquito nets have been distributed since 2004 by Global Fund. This has seen a significant downward trend of infection and death rates.

Reported malaria related deaths were reduced from 600 per year to 431 between 2008 and 2012.
