Jiwaka Youths Surrender Homebrew Equipment

December 1st was a significant day for the people of Jiwaka Province. Whilethe world was commemoratingWorld Aids Day Jiwaka Provincial Police Commander, Joseph Tondop also launched “Stop abuse of Violence withthe use of Alcohol and drugs” inthe Province.

More than five thousand people inthe province gthered for the event. Youths came forward to surrendertheir alcohol making equipment used to make home-made beer or homebrew, and steam.

 

It was surprising to see women handing downthe equipment. thers uprootedtheir Marijuana plant and gave it in tothe police.

 

Jiwaka Police confirmed that 80 per cent of lawlessness inthe Province is caused by youths and adults who are intoxicated by drugs and alcohol. They said that use of alcohol and drugs is alsothe cause of serious health problems some of which lead to mental diseases.

 

PPC Tondop called on everyone to be part ofthe awareness and urged youths who surrenderedtheir equipment to stand bytheir promise.

 

Jiwaka Governor, Dr. William Tongamp was also present to withnessthe launching.
