MRA Embarks on Country’s First Tenement Management

Mineral Resources Authority has embarked on developingthe country’s first state ofthe art mineral tenement management system.

A contract was recently signed between MRA and system designer and implementer Spatial Dimension last Friday. It is expected to enhance transparency inthe mining sector.

 

The system isthe first of its kind for Papua New Guinea It will ensure security of tenure throughthe licensing process and will promote greater transparency and accountability.

 

MRA will be able to systematically processthe various mineral tenement applications and clients will be able to review in real timethe status oftheir tenements.

 

MRA Acting Managing Director, Philip Samar, saidthe current manual system being used bythe government is slow and outdated.

 

The new system will ensure a rapid process for the granting and renewal of tenure in PNG and encourage mineral explorers to look tPNG as a top level destination for mining.
