Wabag 5 Year Plan

Wabag district recently launched its 5 year development plan, focusing on empowering its people inthe education, health, business, law and order and small to medium enterprises sectors.

Under this plan it also plans to curbthe escalating law and order problems and plans to be a leader in fighting crime inthe highlands region.

 

When launchingthe plan, local MP, Robert Ganim, said funds will be distributed evenly to maintain all existing and new infrastructure withinthe township and surrounding communities.

 

Education remainsthe most developed sector inthe Enga Province and Wabag districtoandthe lLeadersvowed to keep it that way.

 

However, Mr. Ganim said in 2014the funds will be evenly spread out to ther sectors as well. He saidthe district’s entire infrastructure from classrooms to staff housing to government institutions and roads will be maintained.

 

Law and order is one area that will also receive extra attention. Tribal clashes are inevitable and happen frequently withinthe township and surrounding communities. Underthe plan, police will also be assisted and fully equipped and empowered to curbthe escalating law and order problems. Mr. Ganim saidthe first bold step taken was to improverthe salary for the community peace officers.

 

The fee free education policy has been hailed a success overthe years. However, todaythere is classroom shortage. This isthe reason behindthe New Dayschool thatthe Prime Minister recently launched.  

 

Also underthe 5 year development plan, 1 million kina will be put aside for local farmers and business men and women to obtain loans to starttheir businesses. This is to boost economic activities withinthe township and surrounding communities. The plan is to attract local and international tourists intothe district and province.
