Marape Denies Involvement in K2 Million Payment

Finance and Education Minister, James Marape responded to claims made by Belolo member Sam Besil of diverting his DSIP funds to a landowner company fromthe Hides Petroleum Development License 1 area.

The Finance Minister responded to allegations by Mr Besil during question time withthe media at a news conference recently.

 

Mr Besil has repeatedly claimed that Minister Marape was giving prominence to this particular paymentobut Mr Marape denlied any personal connection withthe company.

 

Minister Marape’saidthe payment was made after a series of discussions betweenthe Finance Department andthe National Planning Department.

 

Prior tothe company receivingthe K2 million paymentoMr Marape’saidthe companPNG Power Boss Limited had submitted a proposal tothe National Planning and Monitoring Department and Finance Department in 2009.

 

He says, Mr Besil should not misleadthe Belolo people asthe money is for outstanding MOA payments to landowner companies inthe LNG Project areas.

 

Mr Marapethen outlinedthe DSIP allocation for Belolo district sayingthe DSIP funds were allocated tothe deteriorating police and health facilities inthe electorate.

 

Mr Marape is inviting Mr Besil for a roundtable discussion to solve this matter in an appropriate way.
