Residents and businesses in Lae City are at risk of fire threats that can destroy and damage houses and businesses.
The Lae Fire Station is under equipped and needs expansion to cater for the rapid growth ofthe industrial hub.
The president ofthe Lae chamber of commerce, Allan MacLay says Residents and businesses around Lae city want confidence restored back intothe lifesaving public service.
“Lae needs not only new trucks but more equipment and a new fire station,” said MacLay.The Lae chamber of commerce has been supportingthe fire service inthe city becausethe government is not doing it.
PNG Chief of Fire Service, Isaac Silas cannot say wherethe delay is fromthey saidthe department would write up proposals tothe government.
“We would need to do a risk analysis and go back again tothe government,” He said.Last weekthe Morobe provincial government presented six new vehicles to Lae Police to increasetheir surveillance radius aroundthe city’s outskirts including hot spots.
