Lae Women to Protest

Womenin Lae are set to conduct a sit in strike today atthe Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium. Thousands of women are expected to participate inthe protest.

A petition will be presented tothe Member for Lae andthe Minister for Women Religionand community DevelopmentoLoujaya Toni. 

The women will be demandingthe provincial government and national government to enact tougher laws to deter crimes committed against women.

The protest was initiated by women in Morobe as part ofthe outrage followingthe torching ofthe female in Mount Hagen andthe raping of a female nurse in Lae last week. 

The protest is expected to bring to light some ofthe issues faced bPNG women, which has been long neglected bythe National government and its relevant bodies.
