Kimbe PNG Power’s Rural Electrification Project

People living between Nahavio and Mae Junction alongthe Kimbe Hoskins highway inthe West New Beitain Province now have electricity.

PNG Power Limited commissionedthe first 10 kilometers of power lines last Friday underthe Nahavio to Hoskins Rural Electrification project.

 

The commissioning marksthe completion ofthe first part ofthe 30 kilometer Rural Electrification Project funded bythe local MP, Francis Marus.

 

The first 10 kilometres was energised for customers between Nahavio and Mae to use whilst work would continue on to Hoskins inthe New Year.

 

Project Manager, Ginigin Massowa, saidthe next 20 kilometres to Hoskins should be completed by December 2014 and all customers who were usingtheir own generators would be connected tothe power supply froPNG Power station.

 

Mr. Ginigin said many customers had already requested for supply to be connected totheir premises for the festive season.

 

One ofthe first institutions alongthe route ofthe project that has been connected isthe Ponini Catholic Technical High School.

 

The Kapore station will also be lit up under this project and many ther residences alongthe highway.

 

PNG Power is currently working on installing anther 2.5 megawatt generator atthe Kimbe power station.

 

Mr. Ginigin said this installation is to meetthe demand for electricity from people and business houses between Nahavio and Hoskins, which is in access of 1 megawatt.

 

For now,the Kimbe diesel power station is able to supply 3.4 megawatts of electricity, 1.2 megawatts is supplemented bythe New Beitain Palm Oil’s biothermal power plant.

 

Meantime,the people are glad thatthe highway has been lit up withthe installations of 12 new street lights and connections tothe premises.
