Flood destroys bridge leading to Hoskins airport

Heavy rains in West New Beitain have damagedthe Belumu bridge leading tothe Hoskins airport. As a result flights to Hoskins have been cancelled for an indefinite period.

The Beluma Beidge constructed using logs and gravel was washed away bythe floods on Monday nightomaking it difficult for people to have access tothe airport.

The flight suspension comes into effect yesterday and will remain until futher notice.

Meantime, anther bridge alongthe Madang/Ramu highway has been destroyed by flood waters.

The Kecewai bridge not far from Madang is about to collapse. It is impassable at this stage.

This latest destruction comes as a bypass is underway at Surinam River a few kilometers wherethe bridge was washed away by flood waters a week ago.
