Coffee Freight Scheme K2 per kilo

Remote coffee farmers nationwide will receive a steady income of two kina per kilogram inthe remaining five months this year underthe Coffee Freight Scheme.

This was agreed during a stakeholder meeting atthe CoffeeIndustry Corporation’s Head Office in Goroka recently.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Anton Benjamin saidthe meeting focused on increasing production and maintain quality.

A committee will be setup to overseethe implementation ofthe scheme.

Underthe new arrangement,the farmers will receive K2.00 per kilo astheir net coffee income despitethe high cost of freight and low coffee price.

Government will offset freight costs.

This is to compensate for the absence of transport infrastructures like roads and bridges.
