Asylum Seekers: Two Papua New Guineans On Beard

It has been alleged that two Papua New Guineas were seeking asylum in Australia by boat overthe weekend.

The men were among a group of asylum seekers travelling from Thursday Island inthe Torres Strait Islands to Australia.

They are undergoing medical and identity checks and will be transferred to Manus Island.

Yesterday,the foreign affairs and Immigration department said it is not aware of this report and will launch an investigation to clarify this report. The Australian High Commission is also not aware of this claim.

So far over 30 asylum seekers are on Manus Island sincethe sealing ofthe first deal.

This group found overthe weekend will undergo normal health and identity checks for unauthorised arrivals and willthen be transferred to Manus Island.

The second deal signed will seethe asylum seekers processed and if qualiflied as refugees, will be resettled inthe country.

Earlierthe Prime Ministersaid such arrangement will not come into play.

They also talked about beefing up border protection to deterthese boats from entering Australia.

They saidthe asylum seeker deal has just opened up anther front onthe Torres Strait.
