Netball Championship Called Off

The annual central province netball championships were called off due to circumstances which prohibit the continuation of games.

The tournament kicked off on Sunday, with Governor for Central Province, Kila Haoda as well as Minister for Abau, Sir Puka Temu, opening the games.

Despite the cancellation, President of the Central Netball Association, Iamo Launa, and her Central Province netball committee have selected a team from the tournament, to take part in this year’s National Netball Championships next month in Kimbe, West New Britain.

The province known for dominating the PNG Pepes have had a successful provincial tournament, despite being forced to call an end to the tournament, due to the circumstance and qualities of the courts.

President of the Central Province Netball Association, Iamo Launa commended the girls for their seemingly effortless talent. She continues in her efforts to promote and prolong the sport throughout the province.

Mrs. Launa confirmed the U17 and U21 Team Central, which saw a number of junior Pepes added to the squad, hoping to make up an unbeatable team.

Aisha Robert and Lua Raka of Saroa village were both outstanding at the two day tournament, and are most certainly looking to make their province proud.
