Jiwaka Coffee Nursery

The people of Banz in Jiwaka province will now plant more coffee trees and increase their production.

This comes after the launching of the Jiwaka Central Coffee Nursery yesterday in Numan Village by Agriculture Minister, Tommy Tomscoll, and Coffee Industry Corporation Chief Executive, Anthon Benjamin.

A Memorandum of Agreement was also signed between CIC and various stakeholders.

Coffee has been the backbone income of the Jiwaka people over the past 30 years.

However, poor road infrastructure and the inconsistent care of the crop saw a huge drop in the market.

The opening of the nursery in Bung is the beginning of revitalizing the coffee industry for the Jiwaka people and neighboring provinces.

Longtime coffee grower Paul Pap called on the growers to work together with CIC to expand every farm.

Coffee Industry Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Anton Benjamin, said despite hiccups faced, the coffee expansion program is on a large scale with the support of the government.

Agriculture Minister, Tommy Tomscoll spoke highly of the quality produced by PNG farmers, emphasizing farmers to spend more time in the coffee gardens.

The opening of the coffee nursery also saw the launching of the prototype huller and distribution of seedlings.
