Infrastructure Development Grants To Be Investigated

The government will soon audit the use of Infrastructure Development Grants since 2010.

This was revealed by National Planning Minister Charles Abel.

In an exclusive interview with EMTV, Minister Abel said the funds will be audited, as there is nothing tangible in project areas.

Minister Abel said through the agreement signed in Kokopo, the government allocates K120 million for Infrastructure development grants, while K50 million for High Impact Projects every year.

However, since 2010, Minister Abel said there’s been no tangible development, prompting the audit.

He said with regards to the payMen’s of the IDG grants, the O’Neill–Dion government has attempted to rectify the problem through the clan vetting, currently undertaken by the Department of Petroleum and Energy.

In recent months, there have been calls by Gobe Landowners calling on the government to repay all outstanding grants.

Minister Abel said admitted the system is not perfect, but his department is trying its best to improve it.

He assured all landowner groups that all funds are safe and they will soon dispatch the 2013 IDG Grants and High Impact Project funds.
