A primary school in NCD is appealing to the Government and business houses operating within its vicinity, to help them build new classrooms to cater for its excessive number of students.
Already six months into the 2014 academic year, Baruni primary school is still struggling to accommodate students in a proper space, so effective learning is achieved.
School head teacher, Katumo Nime, said there are over fifty students in one classroom, and they are in need of more classrooms infrastructure.
Established in the 1960s, Baruni Primary School outside Port Moresby has grown from strength to strength.
But like other schools around the country, infrastructure is the main concern being raised.
Here, these grade three students sit on the concrete floor, and learn.
The two grade four classes were forced to to be combined into this one classroom, some sitting on the desks, while others, on the floor.
Head Teacher, Katumo Nime, said the ratio of students to teachers is unbalanced according to the standard education plan, and he urged the government and businesses operating close to the school, to help them build new classrooms.
While welcoming the government’s tuition fee free policy, Mr Nime said the government must improve infrastructure as well.
Meanwhile, Education Minister, Nick Kuman, announced last Friday that the government will fund a double classroom, and two teachers’ houses in all schools by 2015.
