The Deputy Prime Minister and Inter-Government Relations Minister, Sir Leo Dion, told the Mamose Governor’s Conference that urgent action was needed to address the plight of the Manam people.
He said the issue was long outstanding and had to be resolved. He has suggested the establishment of a committee that will oversee a final resettlement solution for the Manam people currently living in care centres.

A U.S. air force team is currently carrying out Operation Pacific Unity in Western Highlands Province with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force.
The operation involves the building of two female dormitories at the Togoba Intermediate School in Mount Hagen. The school is currently experiencing low space capacity and turning away hundreds of girls each year as a result.
Once completed, the two dormitories will see more girls enrolled with access to education opportunities. This is the first time U.S. air force personnel are conducting an engineering civic action program in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Previous exchange programs occurred along coastal areas.
"EYE CLINIC VISIT” – Michelle Amba
To help the clinic provide eye care to patients, it received corneal transplant instruments. The medical equipment, costing $2, 500 per pack, came from members of the Sri Lankan-PNG Friendship Association.
In its’ effort in maintaining a healthy relationship with PNG, members of the association have decided to give to the clinic. These instruments will help with corneal transplants, which is the surgical replacement of damaged cornea.
Patron of the Association, Washanta Kumarasiri, told EM TV News that this is a continued effort left from the former president.

The Madang open recount was today delayed, due to logistical matters relating to the freight company transferring containers containing ballot papers from Jomba Police Station to the counting centre.
“DIGICEL CUP GRAND FINAL THIS SUNDAY” – Tere Alex
The 2014 Digicel Cup grand final will be played at the Lae rugby oval this Sunday.
The PNG NRL Board made the announcement this afternoon after negotiations between all stakeholders, following Hela Wigmen’s decision not to travel to Kokopo to play against the Rabaul Agmark Gurias last weekend.
PNG NRL Chairman, Sudhir Guru, said the game should have been forfeited by the Gurias, according to guidelines agreed by all franchises, including the Hela Wigmen. He said security personnel will be in force and no alcohol will be tolerated.
“IZARLAMBORN CHAMPIONS” – Fabian Hakalits
Izarlamborn Netball Club is the champion of the Madang Netball Association. Both the premier and junior under-15 divisions claimed titles in the grand final over the weekend.
Izarlamborn defeated Divine Word University 43-23 in the premiers while the juniors saw 15 points to 5 against Holy Spirit Primary School.
