The liquidation of the Lae based, Lutheran shipping company has affected a significant portion of the Morobe’s population, living along the coastlines and outer islands.
Those people who have benefited from the shipping services over the past 70 years says, their lives have been largely affected.
The people say, there is a high possibility of schools and health centers running short of school and medical supplies.
People from remote places like Kabwum that get their food supplies en route the sea, are experiencing an increase in the prices of store goods.
Numerous protests and sit in strikes have been staged by the crewmembers of the shipping company in the past twelve months over non-payment of salaries.
About two months ago, the Evangelical Lutheran of Papua New Guinea council finally came up with a decision for the company to undergo liquidation.
It’s understood the shipping company owes nearly K10 million to its creditors.
