"Cricket PNG Coach" – Tere Alex
Former New Zealand International Test Cricketer and Kenyan-born batsman, Dipak Patel, will head the coaching department of Cricket PNG over the next two years.
Mr. Patel will arrive in the country in mid-August, and his first task will be to prepare the Barramundi’s for the SACA Premier League and the ICC EAP Twenty 20 Qualifiers. This will be closely followed by the Lewas and the Garamuts who will have World Cup Qualifiers to play in 2015.
Patel, who will be based in Port Moresby, will also focus on building a sustainable depth of talent under the Barramundis which will facilitate them for the future. Patel was a stylish middle’Order batsman and right-arm off-break bowler.
His highest score in Tests came when he was run out for ninety nine against the Englands in 1992. His best bowling figures of six for 50 also came in 1992 against Zimbabwe.
"PNG Wins Gold" – Tere Alex
The PNG mens Kata team in Karate won gold at the Thailand Open Karate- Do Championships hosted on the 14th of this month.
The team comprised of Cosmas Saliawali, Nigel Bana and Leonard Gariadi, defeated Vietnam while Leonard went ahead and snatched bronze in the 75 Kilograms Senior Kumite.
In other divisions, Crystal narrowly missed out for on a bronze in the 53 Kilograms Junior Female Kumite, and also made the quarter finals in the Junior Female Kata division.
The senior male individual Kata division also saw Cosmas and Nigel reach the quarter finals, but miss out on bronze. PNG competed against athletes from 18 teams from 12 countries.
"MH 17" – Mickey Kavera
Foreign Affairs Minister, Rimbink Pato, has welcomed the unanimous decision of the United Nations Security Council, to allow full and unrestricted access for investigators to the crash site of the Malaysia Airlines jet in eastern Ukraine.
Through a unanimous decision, of 15 votes to 0, members of the Security Council have made their views heard. The priority must be for search and recovery teams to be able to access the expansive crash site, and for investigators to be able to do their job.
There must be no impediMen’s placed in the way of the investigator, and the dignity of the deceased must be respected.
