The PNG Sport Federation and Olympic Committee through the PNG Athletes Commission have launched an Environment Clean-Up Programme at Ela Beach in Port Moresby today.
This is aimed at integrating sporting activities with environmental awareness.
Athletes and community leaders will be trained to deliver educational messages to schools and communities.
They will also run regular clean-up events to help people understand the effects of non-biodegradable waste on the environment.
In the lead-up to the Pacific Games in 2015 this programme will also raise the profile of sports and athletes.
PNGSFOC Secretary General, Auvita Rapilla said the Clean Up program at Ela Beach is a great way to highlight the link between playing sport and enjoying the environment.
