OTML Chairman on Notice for comments against PNG’s political leadership

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill yesterday put former Chairman of the PNGSDP board, Dr Ross Garnaut on notice for comments he made against the political leadership of the country.

He promised to take appropriate actions against Dr Garnaut for his comments which include him calling PNG a poor country with no good leadership. Dr Garnaut is now the Chairman of OTML board.

Prime Minister O’Neill also questioned the existence and functions of PNGSDP since the exit of BHP many years ago.

He admitted that the government has been providing a blanket cover over BHP after it was sued for environment damage by establishing PNGSDP.

But yesterday he questioned whether PNGSDP has really delivered services to the people of Western Province.

He said PNG can’t continue to allow BHP to dictate the roles and functions of PNGSDP from Australia and that BHP must surrender its position to the government and people of PNG.
