Six Juvenile’s at the Prison in Port Moresby are still waiting for their airline tickets to travel to various boys town locations in Papua New Guinea.
The six are remandees under warrant to boy’s town in Wewak, Erap in Lae and Zegarata in Popondetta.
Officer in Charge of Juvenile section, Sergent Major Hannington Yaya, said the boys have been waiting for almost eight months.
He said, the Community Based Correctional Service are supposed to facilitate this with the Office of the Attorney General to purchase the tickets.
“The boys are supposed to serve a term of one year at boy’s town, but it seems they have already served it here at the Bomana Juvenile Prison,” he said.
“The option’s now is to go back to court for the court to decide whether to release them or not, because by the time the tickets are issued they would have already served their terms.”
“It is very unfortunate that this has to happen but I believe funding must have been a problem,” Hannington said.
Mostly, juvenile with drug related cases are sent to boy’s town to serve their term.
