Building Parliamentary Integrity

Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) handed over its open parliament project to the national parliament this afternoon.

Aimed at building the integrity of the national parliament, the project will provide a platform for Papua New Guineans to understand the roles and responsibilities of their elected leaders in parliament.

Chairman of TIPNG, Lawrence Stephens, said it is one of TIPNG’s prized projects. He challenged parliamentary speaker, Theo Zurenouc, to see that the project is maintained.

“TIPNG has worked tirelessly to see the project develop to what it is today, moreover to see it being accepted and utilised by citizens and members of parliament,” Stephens said.

European Union (EU) Ambassador to PNG, Ioannis Girogkarakis said the EU will continue to support project, however supported calls by Stephens to see it fully utilised for its effectiveness.

Meanwhile, Zurenouc said the project marks the start of a new era in the national parliament. He maintained that he will deliver the project to its full potential saying they will start educating MPs on this new concept in the coming months.
