Following the finals of the National Boxing Championships in Kavieng over the weekend, there are still questions as to why Team NCD did not attend.
Members of the team have expressed disappointment towards their administration.
On November 25, a Team NCD boxer who wishes to remain anonymous, said the team waited for word from officials at the High Performance Training Centre (HPTC) from 6am-6pm, but were then asked to go home.
The next day, they gathered around the HPTC, dehydrated, hungry and weak but ready to fight, as the officials made the final announcement saying “There’s no flights to Kavieng and the tournament has already started so even if we do go, you are all disqualified anyway, we are really sorry but next week we will have a BBQ and talk properly.’’
NCD Boxing Association has refused to comment.
