Foster Parents Wait to Bring Baby Home

By Rachel Shisei – EM TV, Madang

The baby girl that was abondoned by her mother at the Modilon General Hospital, is still waiting to go home with her foster parents.

She is still being cared for by the nursery health workers, who have been taking turns in feeding, bathing and clothing her everyday, for a month now.

The health workers said, she already has parents who want to have her as soon as possible, but are not able to do so, as yet, due to requirements by the welfare office, to have the adoption forms signed by the infant’s natural mother.

Reports confirmed that the baby’s natural mother has been identified, but she hasn’t shown up at the hospital to claim her baby, or at the welfare office to sign the adoption forms, in fear of being arrested.

The child is currently being cared for at the Madang General Hospital’s Nursery, under welfare’s protection, until all documents are completed.
