Suspects of December Attack on G4S Guard Apprehended

By Bridgette Komatep – EM TV, Port Moresby

Following the recent brutal attack on a G4S security guard, Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) officers have arrested the suspects involved in the incident.

When contacted, NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa said he hasn’t received any briefing from the CID. However, he confirmed that a news conference will be held tomorrow.

In December of 2014, a G4S Security guard was brutally attacked by Chinese nationals, at Nine Mile in Port Moresby. Public anger escalated on social media, particularly, the group entitled ‘Voice of PNG Group’. Papua New Guineans posted comments, asking why there has been an increase of foreign businesses operating in the country and why citizens are mistreated by them.

This case has drawn the attention on the new need for the re-establishment of the special taskforce team, dubbed as the Immigration Task Force, once responsible for investigating illegal immigrants, breaches of work permits and human smuggling.

The task force was coordinated by John Bria with the support of officers from multi-agencies, that comprised the police, immigration and the National Intelligence Organisation.

With the organisation now dissolved, such incidents have prompted the need to re-engage the Task Force.
