The PNG Teachers Association General Secretary, Ugwalubu Mowana, has called on the national government to release the final 30 per cent of leave entitlements.
Mowana said that as of today, they have only released 70 per cent, but that has not catered well for all teachers who are eligible for leave this year.
He said this has already affected several teachers.
“The national government must release the remaining 30 per cent of teachers leave fare entitlements,” he said.
The PNG Teachers Association, while appreciating the government’s efforts prioritising in education and understanding its cash flow situation, said funds must be released to accommodate issues encountered with teachers leave entitlements.
“Teachers deserve their money for time and effort in educating the nation. Their leave fares must be immediately paid,” he said.
Mowana said the dilemma on teachers crying foul over their leave fares is becoming a seasonal problem and the national government must investigate.
