The restructure of the police command will see previously known Momase split into two separate commands – Momase and Border commands.
Momase will include Eastern Highlands as well as Lae Metropolitan, Morobe and Madang.
The border Command will be responsible for East Sepik, Sandaun, Western and Gulf provinces.
Outgoing ACP Momase, Nema Mondia, has now taken over the Eastern part of the Highlands region Command.
He will be responsible for Western Highlands, Jiwaka and Chimbu Provinces.
Taking over from Mr Mondiai’s role, Peter Guiness will now be responsible for the Lae Metropolitan, Morobe and Madang Commands.
Donald Yamasombi will be responsible for ESP, Saundaun, Western and Gulf provinces.
Yamasombi said the new command is created as most of the problems arising from Indonesia often spilled over to the border provinces.
Deputy Police Commissioner Administration, Raphael Huafolo, says the changes are in line with the modernisation program in the police department.
And it is vital that all officers around Papua New Guinea understand the changes that have to be made, adding the department needs to meet the policing demands in the country especially at the Senior Command level.
Huafolo said the new changes are the first step taken at the management level to address the policing demands around the country.
It is an important start for the police department in building the public confidence that had been lost.
Adding, with the new structure will gradually rebuild that public confidence.
