Only nine of the 37 registered aid posts in the Yangoru Saussia district are operating, and calls have been made for more health workers to fill up the vacant positions.
Kubalia Health Sub centre Health Extension Officer, Glenis Wopmi, said this has put pressure on medical workers in the four main health centres in the electorate.
In the last 30 years, 28 registered aid posts in the electorate have closed down and only nine are operating.
Only 32 health workers are stationed in the nine existing aid posts and four health centres, serving the entire population in the electorate.
In light of poor infrastructures and lack of financial support, which past leaders have offered, many nurses have abandoned them to work elsewhere.
But with the new leadership, the District Development Authority has built eleven new aid posts to complement the rundown buildings.
Local MP, Richard Maru, said the district will give money to the provincial government and health authority to pay for vacant positions to get health workers to the district.
Mr Maru said the district has prioritised education, health, road and bridges, and rural electrification amongst others.
He said past leaders have failed resulting in the drop in human resource and rundown health and school infrastructures.
