by Dion Kombeng – EM TV, Port Moresby

Port Moresby residents turned out in the thousands to get behind the SP PNG Hunters as they played their first match in the nation’s capital, where they took on the South’s Logan Magpies.

The match was also used to test the redeveloped Sir John Guise Stadium, referred to as the BSP Stadium.

The BSP Stadium (Sir John Guise Stadium) is set to host the opening ceremony of the Pacific Games next month.

The SP PNG Hunters fans began flocking as early as 3pm to witness the first Intrust Super Cup match in Port Moresby.

Police presence was on hand to make sure the influx of people moved swiftly into the venue.

Residents of Port Moresby were all behind the Hunters as they were to be the first to play on the redeveloped Sir John Guise stadium for the very first time.

Coach, Michael Marum, was pleased with the Hunters performance, and the turn out of the crowd which presented a strong support for the team.

The Hunters came into the match as favourites, as they took on the Souths Logan Magpies, and they did not disappoint the crowd claiming the victory 34 points to 12.
