Education Minister, Nick Kuman, says teachers’ welfare must be a priority in remote parts of the country.
Minister Kuman said this must be sorted, to keep teachers in the classroom, and allow the progress of learning.
He expressed this, while presenting the TFF commodity component for Karamui High School in Chimbu Province, recently.
Minister Kuman said that maintaining and improving conditions for teachers is vital in the whole process of learning.
Papua New Guinea continues to produce a sufficient number of teachers to engage in schools around the country, but most teachers remain in urban centres due to the accessibility of vital services like health, communication and transport.
The Education Minister said, it’s a priority in equipping schools with learning materials, but it is crucial to give the best services to teachers as well.
Minister Kuman said challenges still remain for the government to retain teachers in remote parts like Karamiu, Telefomin and border areas of Gulf.
Despite the continued criticism of the TFF component around the country, the government is still rolling out the trial kits to schools around the country.
Karamui High School is the first in Chimbu to receive the learning kits.
