The Special Parliamentary Committee On Public Sector Reform and Service Delivery is now in Daru, Western Province on a ‘fact finding Mission’.
The team led by Dr Bill Hamblin, aims to identify problems that have hindered the provision of health services for the people of Daru and Western Province as a whole.
This morning the team conducted several meetings, beginning with the Daru General Hospital’s caretaker-chief executive officer.
They then continued with meeting with authorities from the provincial health authority that covers the North Fly, South Fly and Middle Fly Districts.
They spoke about the problems and complications encountered, that affect service delivery.
Tomorrow in Daru, a forum will be held to discuss problems faced within the health system.
Then on Thursday, the team will travel to Mabodawan, near the Australian border to identify rural health problems, faced in the area.
One major concern is the multi-drug resistant TB, that continuous to become a challenge, for health workers in South Fly and Western province as a whole.
Yes efforts have been done to combat the epidemic, but more needs to be done especially in the rural communities, where transport is costly and health services and infrastructure is inadequate.
