Department of Personnel Management Launches GESI Help Desk

by Delly Bagu – EM TV, Port Moresby

Two years after the GESI Policy was launched by the Department of Personnel Management (DPM), the department has taken yet another step to ensure the strategy works.

Today, DPM marked the establishment its GESI Help Desk and the National Public Service GESI Toolkit.

GESI is the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion agenda that has been put in place to ensure equal opportunity and participation in the public service.

An impressive turnout today at the Institute of Public Administration in Port Moresby for the launch of the Department of Personnel Management’s GESI Help Desk and the National Public Service GESI Toolkit.

DPM Secretary, John Kali, said the Gender Equity & Social Inclusion or GESI Policy and Help Desk is all about promoting fair, equitable employment opportunities for all and to end all forms of violence and discrimination in the workplace.

With the introduction of a GESI Help Desk, officers who have become vulnerable and fallen victims to Gender Based Violence can now be encouraged to break their silence. They can report occurrences of sexual harassment, domestic violence and all forms of discrimination in the workplace that may affect their ability to work freely within their organizations.

Minister for Public Service, Sir Puka Temu, said it’s important to implement the policy.

DPM has been challenged to increase women’s participation by 15 per cent and to increase the number of women in leadership by 30 per cent.
