Marape Responds to Basil, Over Pacific Games

By Shane Saroya – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

In an interview with EMTV over the weekend, Finance Minister, James Marape, assured the stability of the current construction work, for the 2015 Pacific Games venues and infrastructure.

He made this comment a week after Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil pledged the support of the Opposition.

Basil also asked for the government to reveal its ‘Plan B’, should the venues for the Pacific Games not be complete, come July.  He said the Opposition was ready to help, but would only do so when the government revealed its back up plans.

Marape, in defence, stated that the bid to host the games was not endorsed by the O’Neill–Dion Government, but they have committed themselves towards building the games in a short time frame.

However, despite the growing political and public concern over the completion of the games venues, Marape says, payments have been made, and funds have been released for the construction work of the Pacific Games venues and for a prompt opening on the 4th of July.
