School students in Southern Highlands Province will be fully attired with uniforms following the launch last week in Mendi.
The Southern Highlands Provincial government through the leadership of its governor, William Powi, has invested K3 million, to purchase these uniforms.
This is part of the province’s master plan to restore, rehabilitate and provide stability in the province.
Jubilant students from within Mendi town gathered at the Momei Oval last Wednesday, showcasing their new uniforms, soon to be worn by all students in the province.
The uniforms were made in India and shipped in containers to Mendi, and will be worn by the entire student population in the province starting from Vocational schools to Elementary Schools.
Southern Highlands Governor, William Powi, during the launch, emphasised the different projects the provincial government was doing in the health and education sectors, and briefly highlighted some projects in the province that will be funded using proceeds from the LNG project.
He said members of the Provincial Executive Council and the provincial education officials will start the uniform distribution in the coming weeks, and urged students to prioritise their studies as uniforms and school fees have been catered for by the provincial and national governments respectively.
Head Teacher of Kumin Primary School thanked the provincial government for this initiative.
Students with placards thanked the governor and said the uniforms would boost their morale to study.
