Basil Calls For Morobe Autonomy

Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil, is calling for Morobe’s Autonomy instead of removing the Provincial Government.

Basil says the Provincial Government is the identity of every Province and it shouldn’t be taken away.  It comes after the NEC asked the constitutional review committee to change Provincial Governments.

While speaking at the launching of a new market funded in 2012 at Sambio Village in Mumeng.

Member for Bulolo and Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil raised concerns about reviewing the constitution to remove Provincial Governments.

He says while Provincial Governments can be insufficient, reviewing the constitution and giving more power to the districts will mean more power at the top.

To avoid this, Basil has called on autonomy and state governance in the Province, to safe guard the interest of the Morobe people.

It follows from his petition handed to the Constitutional Review Committee last week while they were in Lae.

Basil’s stance for equal distribution of wealth is also the issue, with some districts of the country needing more funds for development.

And according to the revenue they generate from their mines, wharfs and airports.

Basil also revealed that when the time comes for the change in Government, Laws would be made to punish politicians who were implicated in corrupt deals, dating back to the Pelea Commission of enquiry.

But while Basil talks about National issues, Bulolo District is still waiting for the rest of its district funds; the people are aware that last year’s K7 million hasn’t been released.
