Twelve New Tanks for Gaulim Teachers College

Students from the Gaulim Teachers College in East New Britain Province, can now access clean water, after 12 new tuffer tanks were installed at their dormitories.

It is the first time in years, that the college has seen an improvement to its water storage.

The tanks were installed at the beginning of the year, 6 at the boys and the other 6 at the girls’ dormitories.

Gaulim is suited in the Baining LLG of Gazelle District.

It is a 45 minute drive from Kokopo town.

The soil is fertile, and it rains often but water shortage is real.

The two Southern Cross storage tanks, which were installed 4 decades ago, are rusty and are no longer in use.

The water pumps do not always work.

When there is a black out, the students do not access water and when there is power, the water is dirty; the water pumps do not pump the water.

Both staff and students are then forced to go to the creek, to shower and do laundry.

This can be time consuming.

With the installation of the 12 new tanks, students can now access water from their dormitories.

New tanks have also been installed at the staff houses however they are not enough. Five more new tanks will be installed later this year.
