Morobe Provincial Executive Council Meeting Postponed

Morobe Provincial Executive Council meetings are now held outside Lae City in the rural areas.

While, this is bringing the Provincial Government to the people, the recent meeting on Saturday in Markham was postponed again due to time constrains.

The postponing of the meeting delays vital resolutions on education and roads affecting over 600,000 people.

The recent PEC meeting was brought out to Umi, in the Markham District.

A move to bring members of the Provincial Executive Council closer to the people they represent but the meeting was postponed again.

Discussions on Law & Order problems in Lae and Bulolo, overcrowded classrooms, high unemployment and incomplete roads in the Province have been pushed forward to next month.

Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru’s call to bring PEC meetings to the districts comes after pressure from the people to see Presidents back in their LLG’s, instead of Lae.

“The Constitution of our great country states very clearly that government is by the people, of the people and for the people,” he says.

While moving Provincial Executive Council meetings to the districts, it is aimed at improving relationships between political heads and the people; this first district meeting has fallen short of achieving what was desired.

Limited time and lack of punctuality by PEC members forced the Provincial Government to move the meeting to early March.

This means another set of delays for key decisions that have to be made.

Another important decision that has been delayed is the appointment of Bureaucratic heads, such as the Provincial Administrator, will cause another set of backlogs in the provincial administration’s work.
