Wanigela Village Gets New Bridge

Wanigela Village is situated on the sea in the middle of the Marshall Lagoon just a few kilometres from Kupiano Station.

There is no bridge or walkway that connects the village to the land like other Central villages. But the people there are used to living on the sea and say they don’t want to be connected to the main land.

The Wanigela people on Monday had a surprise visit from Central Governor, Kila Haoda.

The Governor was there to present a cheque of K150, 000 to build a walkway from the land to the village.

He also presented a cheque of K80, 000 to neighbouring Wiyori Village for the construction of a new Aid Post.

It was the first time for a Member of Parliament to visit and donate cheques to the two villages.

The Deputy Governor who originates from the village said with the money they will also build a permanent stage for the village to use.

The Governor also pledged K50, 000 for the Wanigela Seventh Day Advantage Church.

Waiyori Councillor thanked the Governor for his initiative.

The governor was then taken on a tour around the village.
