With the Betelnut ban underway in NCD, Governor Powes Parkop is aiming to regulate and formulate a ban on the use and manufacturing of plastic bags in the city.
Governor Parkop said this at a recent news conference when emphasizing on the total betelnut ban in the Nation’s Capital.
Mr. Parkop describes plastics bags as an eye-sore on the streets of Port Moresby.
NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, is on a mission to change and improve the status and face of the capital of PNG, Port Moresby.
Governor Parkop says, in order to prepare the city for major events like the 2015 Games, Festival of Arts and APEC summit in 2018, a fast and appropriate approach must be taken to shape the city.
He says, with the betelnut ban in progress, a committee including the city management will be working around the clock with the Governor to control the use and manufacturing of plastic in the city.
Governor Parkop says plastic bags have been useful to all, however something must be done about its manufacturing and disposal.
He says, a monitoring mechanism will be used to curb the littering and use of plastic as 2014 unfolds.
Mr. Parkop also announced to the media that, after banning betelnut and plastic, he is eyeing manufacturers and distributors of alcohol in the city.
Governor Parkop says 2014 must be a year of change and cooperation by all city residents.
