Velerupu Pride Champions

 The home of Queensland Reds’ half-back Will Genia, was the host of the Aroma Coast 7s Tournament.

Lalaura village, located along the Aroma Coast in Central Province, came alive with union action.

The Pacific In- Union program was aimed to train and nurture youngsters at an early age.

 

16 teams from surrounding villages including Maopa Kala, Paramana, Kapari, Baike had participated in the opening of the 2014 AC 7s tournment. 

 

There were four pools played in three rounds.  Day one saw classy action displayed by Baike in green and MK Brothers.

 

In- formed Baikes were banking on ball work and speed while on the other hand MK Brothers utilized advice from former rugby league greats Chris Enara, but in the end Both teams drew 17 all.

 

On day 2, the pressure kept mounting as teams forced their way into Lalaura oval, hoping to move up a notch on the ladder.

 

Kapari1 went down to Baike in the fourth pool matches. MK Brothers took sweet revenge on Kelekings 19-7.  All matches went down to the wire with top teams set for the finals.

 

Velerupu Pride Team 1 was outstanding since the beginning of the match. The boys in red thrashed the home side, Warumana 31 – nil in round 2 matches.

 

Having former PNG Pukpuks winger Kojo Ware onboard has forced Pride 1 to beat Baike to advance to cup playoff against the hotly tipped Viriolo Sharks.

 

Sharks managed only once to find the try line while Pride 1 through Ware opened the floodgate, having sharks netted at 35 points to 5 at full time.

 

Kapari 1 won the Bowl against Wasa Wanbel meanwhile, Velerupu Pride 2 proved the better side in the plate playoff.

 

Awards were presented to the victors by the Central Governor Kila Haoda as well as Will Genia and older brother Francis Genia.
