Judge Leka Nablu Sworn In

By Adelaide Kari – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Judge Nablu was first appointed as an acting Judge of the National Court for a term of 12 months in June 2014.

Last December Ano Pala, Minister for Justice and Attorney General, announced Judge Nablu’s permanent appointment for 10 years.

Judge Nablu said that she had never dreamed of becoming a judge when she started her law career and was humbled at the fact that the Judicial and Legal Service Commission appointed her.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, she served as the principal legal officer for Internal Revenue Commission for 14 years. She hopes to bring her experience in tax laws to the Judiciary.

Judge Nablu is the third female judge from Papua New Guinea.

When asked what her message to upcoming women lawyers who aspire to be judges would be, she said that the key was to work hard.
