by Eric Haurupma – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinean’s diagnosed with dental illness will now have access to a modern dental treatment facility.

Two female Papua New Guineans, Dr. Evelyn Mano and Dr. Helen Kambual are dental professionals currently operating medical check-ups and performing surgery using a state-of-the-art facility.

They have attained practicing certificates in dental procedures and hold a Bachelor degree in Medicine from the University of Papua New Guinea.

Since its establishment, this nationally owned dentistry company has been at the forefront of delivering a vital health service to the people.

According to Dr. Mano most Papua New Guineans are betel nut chewers and it becomes the norm that children and women are exposed to betel nut, therefore prone to having bad oral hygiene.

“And this is one way of promoting the idea of women and children undertaking medical treatment to prevent oral cancer in the country,” she said.

EMTV News visited the service yesterday and saw units composed of set-up chairs, infra-oral light to cure affected tooth, suction kit, and photo activator light to speed up whitening process, and a sterilising room comprised of steam and ultraviolet sterilisers for cleaning instruments prior to surgery.

Meanwhile, they are receiving training from expert software trainer Allan Lim from the company of software of excellence in Australia.

“Expert helps a practitioner to manage database, identify number of patients and monitor those undergoing treatment,” he said.

To date, 50 dental patients have undergone treatment from the dental clinic in Port Moresby.

It is situated in the Handy Group Building at Boroko in the nation’s capital.
