FC Port Moresby will take on Gigira Laitepo this weekend, in a crunch match for both sides.

Gigira who are currently fifth in the southern conference table, suffered a crushing 4-2 loss to Hekari and will be looking at rebounding against an FC side, that destroyed, PS Huawei by six goals in round 6.

A 3-2 victory for Gigira marked the first time both sides had met, and it will be interesting to see the match up, with former FC Port Moresby player, Basil Jofari, now facing off against his former side.

Regrouping will be the key for Gigira, their loss to Hekari placed them in a precarious position and would no doubt, dampen their confidence heading into this weekend.

For FC Port Moresby, focus has been the key for their improvement. Confidence in front of goal last week, has raised the expectations of the team, who boast a strong side. Huawei PS have a monumental task against Hekari. With only four points from six matches, their quality is slowly coming under scrutiny.

While for Hekari, the return of Wira Wama and David Muta will compound issues further for for PS, who are languishing at the bottom of the table.

The final match in the southern conference will see Erema face second place PKA Rapatona. Memories of a 3-1 loss will be fresh in Erema’s mind, as a win for the Gulf side, could see them leap-frog FC Port Moresby to third place.

In Goroka, Besta FC will be welcomed by the hosts, who are slowly finding goal scoring form, albeit without a win. A win by besta will be important, but may not necessarily place them in a finals spot.

Admiralty meet Madang in a grudge match after their earlier encounter in the coastal township last year. While Lae City Dwellers have a tough Derby against Welgris Morobe United.

A win for Welgris or Madang respectively will see either one place in that coveted second place.

How important is round 7? Well with the table as it stands, apart from Besta and Goroka Gosiha who are too far off the northern conference leaders, a win by Lae, Madang, or Welgris, places anyone of the three in good stead come the second round finals.

While for the southern conference, it’s do or die for at least three other clubs, apart from Hekari who are eight points clear.
