No Show for Lawyers Representing EHP Governor and Interim Provincial Administrator

By Theckla Gunga – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Lawyers representing Eastern Highlands Governor, Julie Soso, and interim Provincial Administrator, Solomon Tato, did not turn up for their mention at the Waigani National Court this morning.

Following this, acting Judge Salee Koeget announced in court that both lawyers would have to consult the court registry to set a new date for the mention.

This court case is in regard to the position of the Provincial Administrator.

This is the second time both lawyers have failed to appear before Judge Koeget at the Waigani National Court.

In November, Soso obtained a court order for the matter to return to court on December 21 last year, but both lawyers failed to attend on that date.

Last week, both lawyers filed urgent applications to consolidate a matter filed at the Goroka National Court by Soso and Akunai, with the Waigani proceedings.

However, Judge Koeget refused to hear the application stating that the political impasse in Goroka has come about because of the wrong advice the lawyers gave to their clients.

Meanwhile, it is understood there is tension in Goroka because of the battle for the PA position.

Reports yesterday showed that police have secured the Yanepa Building and are currently monitoring the situation.
